The Man Cave - A Masculine Layout And The Secrets Behind It

Hi!

If you are looking for my MyScrapbookNook Blog Hop post, you find it here.

-------------
My world is full of men:
  • I work with men - there aren't many women in the construction business
  • My husband is a man - obvious, or he would be my partner, not my husband
  • My FIL lives with us - MIL died twenty five years ago
  • My kids are both boys - blaim it on my husband *lol*
  • Even our budgies and remaining Endeler's Guppies in the fish tank are men
But my cat and dog are girls - yuppie!!

Masculine embellies:
The metal rings are from a hardwear store
The screws are actually eyelets (yes, it is!) I hoarded years ago
Star Button from Ormolu
Striped button: BG paper covered with Epaphany epoxy brad

So I am well trained in doing masculine layouts.

I remember so well when I started scrapping: finding masculine embellishments was so hard, but girly stuff was all over, you know flowers, bling and stuff.Over the years I have developed good skills in making my own embellies and I claim to have an eye for finding masculine stuff, like the ones one the image above. Ad some twine in neutral colors, some papers in masculine colors, and you are there :-)

Wood banner from MME
Fun alpha stickers from AC/Amy Tangerine
Another home made epoxy button using the same manufacorers as above

I spotted this lovely sketch over at the Get Picky Blog and I so wanted to try it out.
And then I had these photos of hubby in his Man Cave.

The perfect combination which resulted in this layout:

Blue PP: Echo Park
Kraft PP: MME

Yellow/grey twine is croched to ad more substanse to it
Office supplies from AC
Very, very, very oldfashioned black eyelets (do you still have yours?)
Button from Ormolu

So what do you say - is it possible to make a masculine layout without embellishments and papers designed for boys and mens layouts? I think so :-)

Thank you for taking your time to stop by.
Now head over to the Get Picky blog to see the inspirational layouts from the DT and the fun, original sketch!

I have scraplifted - and a Tuesday Giveaway winner!

Good morning, fellow scrappers!

Do you have daylight savings in your part of the world? We started today, and guess who cought it from day 1? My dog! Gotta love my dog: happy and bright at 7am, ready for a new day and new fun adventures :-)

Are you looking for the MyScrapbookNook Blog Hop post? You find it here.

On the first week of March, we started a new Lift the Person Above You Challenge at My ScrapbookNook. I got to lift the super talented Swedish scrapper Zarischa and here is the layout I picked to lift:

Layout by Zarischa

Zarisckha is a master of misting and pretty flower details, and I officially suck at both. I loved the design on the layout so here is by take on it:

Look, I even managed to use flowers! While Zarischa used mist, I chose to use rubons instead (I'm a rubon junkie!).

The photo is of DS9 as a first grader. I was browsing through some envelopes with older photos, when I came across his 1th grader photos and realized I never had scrapped them. What a shame! And I have no idea why have haven't done it earlier.

All the materials in this layout are from the Little Yellow Bicycle Saturdays Collection, exept rubons, alpha and twine. When this layout was done, I posted it on the LYB FB wall, and I was happy, surprised and proud to find it featured on the LYB blog this week. Woot, woot for me :-)

---------------

Now to my weekly Tuesday Giveaway:

The winner of this week's giveaway is....

..... NITASHA....

Send my your shipping info using my e-mail adress in the right hand bar, Nitasha, and I will send you the card kit ASAP.

If you didn't win this week, come back on Tuesday for a new chance to win :-)

Have a great Sunday everybody, and a fabolous week!

Not The Bath Tub! (+Tuesday giveaway winner)

I had loves today - plenty:
  1. I just love the new Little Yellow Bicycle collection Saturdays: the colors, the patterns and the fun embellishments.
  2. I love my dog, too
  3. I have been looking for a shop where I could by some Epiphany Craft tools and epoxy buttons, but have found none - well there are some out there in the world, but shipping would ruin me. But sweet Pysselpetra visited me this weekend and brought me a gift - a button tool and epoxy buttons. I think I love her, also...
Guess who has been playing with new papers and tools today?

Playing with the new LYB collection Saturdays.
This layout is my entry to LYB's February/March Sketch Challenge

I have made by first epoxy buttons :-)

RIP A10

A10 is an RC model air plane.
DS9 wanted it for ages, but it's not a beginner's plane and we managed to talk him out of buying it. But then he got some spare money...

My hubby is running an RC shop (boy' s toys!!!) so I admit the kids have an easier access to RC stuff than other kids. But they can't get any thing they want for free, they have to pay for all their stuff (but they do get a great discount).

DS9 handles RC planes a lot better that plenty of adults I have seen, but some times his attemps do fancy tricks ends up not so well. He is very good at fixing distroyed items himself, but this time, when he crashed his A10 into a tall sprouse, we though it was RIP A10. But the A10 is running again after a huge glue treatment.

I admit it: the new MME collections like Miss Caroline and On the Bright sides absolutely does it for me. I love the woodgrain background papers, and even after making four or five layouts with th said background papers, in a various of colors and shades, I'm still not tired of them. I really need to shop some more!

I made this layout for the Blog Challenge #33 at the MME blog, using the On the Bright Side collection + a few items from Fine and Dandy. I chose to keep the layout very simple to emhasize the photo and the emotion in it - emptyness (you have no idea how much DS9 loves this plane, and how sorry he was when he though it had killed it).

Thank you for taking your time to stop by!

Me, myself & I

I have been busy for a while and haven't payed much attention to challenges out in the cyber world for a while. But suddenly life got calmer, I have a mojo overload and all assignments are done, so when I spotted the march 1th challenge at Once Upon A Sketch, I wanted to do it.

The Journalling Criteria/Theme this time: All About Me!

The focus of your journalling and the theme of your layout has to be based on YOU and something/s that you are really good at. Don't be shy! We are all good at something as small or as big as it might be.

As you may know, I work as an engineer at construction sites. Believe me, there aren't many women in the business! No problem really, most of the men are great guys and I like the way they think and talk - stright forward. I imagine they don't see me as a woman either, but as a good co worker (even if I usualy wear a dress or skirt on Fridays, just to celebrate the difference *lol*).

I flipped the sketch, but still kept quite close to the original.

Patterned papers from MME The Bright Side Collection, the rest from here and there

The journaling goes like this: "I like to imagine I'm good at using both parts of myself: the masculine engineer part and the feminin girly part. And I chose to believe all people in my suroundings, both at home and at work, benefit on knowing both those parts".

The photo is taken on one of our construction sites where we are building a new highway.

This winter I split between beeing on site and working with QA and Safety for our head office. My new office is so empty and need some decorations, so I want to frame this layout and bring it there to add some color to the room. A while back we did a photo swap at MyScrapbookNook, and Pysselpetra scrapped the same photo for me (you can see her layout here). I'll keep her layout in my album and will take mine out of our house.

Some close up shots of my layout:

Thank you for taking your time to stop by!

Butterflies Galore

This week I'm doing the Designer Showcase at MyScrapbook Nook, focusing on repeated patterns.
I chose to focus on how to use the different butterflies featured in the March kit, and here is some examples I made for the class.

Pimp wooden butterflies with rubons!

Rub rubon butterflies to acetat to make your 3D embellishments!

Cut out butterflies from patterned paper and use the cut outs to wamp up your pages!

Cut out butterlies from patterned paper and put them on a string!

And here comes the fun part: Spend them all on one single page!

All materials from MyScrapbookNook march kit, featuring the MME Miss Caroline Collection
Layout title: Early spring? My lilacs on Sunday :-)

You find the entire article here - please visit to see examples from both me and forum members on how to use repeated patterns to make uniform looking layouts and cards.

What about you, do you like butterflies?
PS There are some Maya Road ones in this week's giveaway!

Tuesday Giveaway Winner + Nook Member Inspo Sketch

Hi!

Every month we do a Member Inspo Sketch Challenge at MyScrapbookNook: we pick out a member layout from the Nook Gallery, draw a sketch from it and challenge our readers to create a project inspired by the sketch.
As soon as the challenge is closed, the DT will pick a winner who gets the opportunity to guest design for the next month's sketch challenge.

For February we picked a layout by Scrapping_in_AK, and I drew this sketch from it:

Got to love my fancy drawing program *lol*

And here is my example for the challenge, using the fabolous February kit featering the OA Sasparilla Collection. What a fun collection to work with - I just love the color and the patterns!
